If you’ve ever planted a garden with the best intentions and then completely forgotten what’s where… you’re not alone. Every season I tell myself I’ll remember which bulbs and seeds are which, and every season I’m proven wrong.
The simplest solution I’ve found? Large plastic plant tags (affiliate link).
These are one of those small, inexpensive garden supplies that make a huge difference. Instead of guessing, Googling leaf shapes, or waiting until something blooms to identify it, everything is labeled clearly from day one.

I love these tags because they’re waterproof. Rain, watering, and morning dew don’t smear the writing or wear them down. Once labeled, they stay readable for the entire growing season.
They’re also strong. I’ve used flimsier tags in the past that snapped, bent, or disappeared into the soil. These hold their shape well and are sturdy enough to push into the ground without breaking—even in more compact soil.

Another big plus: they last the season. I don’t have to replace them halfway through summer, which means less re-labeling and less frustration. And because they’re cheap and reusable, I can pull them out at the end of the season, wipe them clean, and use them again next year.
I like to write the plant name and planting date, but you can customize them however you want—variety name, spacing notes, or even harvest timing. It’s a quick setup that saves time and confusion later.
If you’re looking for an easy way to keep your garden organized without overthinking it, this is it. Sometimes the best systems are the simplest ones.
